About image

Having a passion for performance and communication lead me to completing a Bachelor of Media at the University of Adelaide in November of 2017. During my time at university I grew interested in radio and am excited of the possibility of developing a career in this field.

Part of my degree was completing a course at Radio Adelaide outlining Radio and Online Production. This intensive course provided training in the production of a radio program including maintaining social media and program webpage. The skills covered include: program design, vocal presentation, story research and development, interviewing, writing scripts, preparing running sheets, panel operation, sound recording, editing and production of online content. Here are links to some of the audio assignments I completed as part of this course:

Young Dynamic Interview

Combating Sexual Harassment Segment

Superstitions

As a final assignment I created a showreel. See showreel tab for this audio.

In 2017 I spent 10 days at ABC Radio Adelaide where I was able to experience a professional radio environment. During this time I shadowed and assisted Sonya Feldhoff for her Afternoons show, Casey Hough for her Country Hour show, and learnt about the social media strategy including the ABC Radio website. This was for a subject in my degree called Media Industry Placement where I had to hand up a report of my time at ABC Radio Adelaide. Here is a copy:

for 6 years I was actively involved at Hills Radio 88.9fm, a Community Radio Station in the Adelaide Hills. While being a volunteer member I had multiple roles. These include Radio Presenter, Admin and Audio Library organiser. I was fortunate to receive a Scholarship to go to the CBAA Conference 2015 in Sydney. There I learnt so much about the community broadcasting sector and about radio in general. I received this scholarship because of my involvement at Hills Radio.

In 2020 I started volunteering at 1079 Life FM. this opportunity has grown my skills in on air presenting and given me the opportunity to work in a team. In 2022 and 2023 I was the Summer Drive Announcer, a two week role on air producing and presenting a show daily.

Towards the end of 2020 I completed the Intro to Radio course run by the Australian Radio School. This gave me so much more knowledge about the commercial radio industry as well as practical skills to apply to my volunteer roles and future paid positions. For part of the course I created a demo with multiple content pieces that highlight the skills I learnt in the course.

In August of 2018 I was fortunate to work with the Prancing Pony Brewery for their Adelaide Hills Oktoberfest in the promotion and marketing for the event. I managed the facebook page, facebook event and the Instagram page of the Brewery. I made sure that attendees of the event were informed of the correct information in the lead up to the event as well as building the hype. I also helped to spread the word of this event through online advertising.

In 2017 I was on the organising committee for the Evangelical Students (ES) Mid Year Conference as the Promotional Manager. ES is a Christian group on campas and they hold a camp every winter holidays. As head of promotions I was in charge of the poster design and creating promotional videos.

Since starting my role as Promotions Assistant at 1079Life I have created all the graphics for the promotions that we run at the radio station. These graphic concepts are then adapted for all of the social media platforms plus the website.

Drama

From  a young age I have had a passion for the performing arts.

In first year of University I was involved with one of the Theatre Guild’s productions of DNA by Dennis Kelly.

Alongside my involvement with Girl Guides Australia I was fortunate to make the cast of the Adelaide Gang Show for four years. Gang Show is a variety performance run and organised by Scouts Australia and Girl Guides Australia. During my time with Adelaide Gang Show I learnt about good team work, performance, self expression and many other valuable life skills.

During my time with Adelaide Gang Show I was also fortunate to spend some time on the Junior Production Team where we helped in the development of an item in the show.

During my high school education I was involved heavily in the Drama subject offered from year 8-12.

The major production that we performed in year 12 was an adaptation of Playing Beatie Bow by Ruth Park. In this production I played a young school girl from 21st century, a young school girl from 18th century, old cabbage selling lady, and a working girl.

One of the major production I was involved in during  year 11 was a play called Living With Lady Macbeth.

Youth Camps

As a teenage I attended Christian Youth Camps. There I gathered with other young Christians and studied the bible and spent time in worship. As an Adult I was able to step up into leadership and mentor  bible study groups where they learnt more about Christian faith and grew closer in their relationship with God.  I have learnt a lot about myself and grown in my faith and as a human through my time at camp both as a camper and leader.

As part of my role in 2016 I made a video each of the days answering a question that was posed to the campers. Below is an image that I helped create as part of the Photography elective I ran. This image is a blend of all who was on camp and an image of Jesus as it reflected the theme of camp: Identity.

There are other skills that I have gained over my education that will be beneficial in the workplace.

Traineeship

During my employment at 1079life Fm I completed a Certificate three in Business as part of a traineeship. During my studies in that course I learnt about many universal skills that can be used across many workplaces. This course covered topics like Wellbeing in the Workplace, Participating in sustainable work practices, Inclusive Workplace Practices, and many others.

University

Writing For News Media

This course introduced the fundamentals of writing for news media. This included the introduction to key principles of news writing, and to the specific requirements of writing for print, broadcast and online media. Course content  incorporated news values, news language and news story structure as a foundation for the practical application of this knowledge through class exercises and assignments. This course presented the opportunity to work with a range of types of source material in developing and writing news stories, and explored the basics of soft news writing and the broader context in which journalism operates.

Story/Technology: Writing Techniques

This course looks at the development and uses of digital stories. The course examines techniques of writing for a range of media and covers the relatively short history of this new field of media production linking it to older forms of story-telling in terms of connection to comparative and indigenous precursors and uses. The course covers an analysis of the ‘new prosumer’ as an autonomous media producer and the development of a computer mediated aesthetics. Theories of narrative form, subjectivity and identity will form part of the course with an examination of forms of collective and political engagement that develop out of digital story. New mainstream genres which grow out of older forms such as the diary or the journal will be discussed. The course has a practical component which will encourage the production of new forms of narrative through exercises and the use of these techniques.

Here is a piece of work from this class: Final Assignment - Digital Story

Japanese Media Cultures and Industries

This course was an in-country Winter School intensive media course and cultural study tour in Japan.  The Japanese film, television and popular culture industries are important players in the construction of the Japanese identity (Nihonjinron) both at home and abroad, and play a vital role in the economy of the country. The intensive media course was held at the Ritsumeikan campus a short way to the centre of Kyoto, allowing students to immerse themselves in the rich culture of this historically significant city in a unique nation. The course included lecture and workshop activities (with English instruction) and visits to key sites in media production in the region including film and television studios and relevant cultural and historical sites related to the development of Japan’s pop culture industries such as anime and manga.
